Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Kitchen Appliances
Keep your appliances in top shape with the right care
Regular maintenance is key to extending the lifespan of your kitchen appliances. Whether you’re cooking, baking, or brewing coffee—well-maintained appliances not only perform better but also make your kitchen experience more enjoyable. In this blog, we’ll focus on effective cleaning tips for three common surfaces found in many appliances: glass ceramic hobs, cast iron hotplates, and stainless steel housings.
Cleaning Glass Ceramic Hobs
Shiny, streak-free, and protected
Glass ceramic cooktops are durable and modern, but they need proper care to stay in great condition. Whether your appliance uses SCHOTT CERAN® or another brand of glass ceramic, these surfaces require regular attention.
Tips for everyday care:
Make sure your cookware has clean, smooth bottoms to avoid scratching. Wipe away sugar, salt, or food crumbs immediately to prevent them from burning onto the surface. Sugary substances in particular—like ketchup—can cause lasting damage when overheated, so remove them quickly.
If burnt residue appears:
- Unplug the device and allow it to cool.
- Remove loose dirt with a damp cloth.
- For stubborn stains, soak the area for an hour using warm water and dish soap or a damp cloth placed on the residue.
- Use a ceramic hob scraper to gently remove the residue. Finish by wiping with a damp cloth and drying thoroughly.
Dealing with streaks:
Visible streaks are usually caused by mineral residues or pan marks. A dedicated ceramic cleaner (like Ceraclen) removes these easily. Use a soft cloth and follow the product instructions for best results.
Cleaning Cast Iron Heating Plates
Robust and long-lasting with the right care
Classic cast iron hotplates are built to last, but they need special attention to prevent rust and maintain their protective coating.
Before first use:
New cast iron plates are sealed with a high-temperature varnish. This needs to be baked in by heating the plate at full power (300–350°C) until it begins to smoke slightly. This process creates a durable protective layer that resists rust.
Ongoing care:
- Avoid abrasive materials like steel wool or strong solvents.
- Don’t use the hotplate as a work surface or cutting board.
- Always keep the surface clean and dry.
- Store the appliance in a dry area to prevent rust formation.
Burnt-on residue?
- Unplug and let the appliance cool.
- Remove larger particles and wipe with a damp cloth.
- For more stubborn residue, soak the area and remove with a spatula.
- Restore the original finish using a cleaner designed for cast iron hotplates (e.g., Record Black or special cleaning cloths for electric stovetops).
Cleaning Stainless Steel Surfaces
Durability meets elegance – with regular care
Stainless steel is a hallmark of Rommelsbacher appliances. We primarily use SUS 304—a rust-resistant stainless steel type known for its durability and professional appearance. Whether brushed or polished, stainless steel surfaces require specific cleaning routines to stay pristine.
Basic cleaning tips:
- Always unplug the appliance and allow it to cool.
- Wipe the housing with a cloth moistened with dishwater immediately after use.
- Remove coarse dirt with a paper towel first, then dry the surface with a soft cloth.
For streaks and fingerprints:
Some stains require more than just water. Choose a cleaning product suitable for stainless steel (check for compatibility with matte or glossy finishes). Make sure the product is food-safe and gentle on skin. These cleaners are available as sprays, pastes, or oils and help maintain a silky, spotless finish.
Preventative care:
By wiping surfaces regularly after use, you’ll reduce the need for deep cleaning. A protective cleaner used once in a while also helps repel fingerprints and keeps your appliance looking like new.
Keep Your Kitchen Tools Looking Their Best
A little extra care goes a long way. With these cleaning and maintenance tips, you can enjoy your Rommelsbacher appliances for years to come—both in performance and appearance. Whether it’s a glass hob, a classic hotplate, or a stainless steel housing, the right maintenance routine ensures optimal hygiene, safety, and durability in your kitchen.
